Shifu: Glass Block Paperweight
Lays flat for paperweight or stands vertical as desk ornament
Two layers of thick glass
Chinese calligraphy for "Shifu" (Sifu) in a heavy glass paperweight.
Shifu is pinyin for the Mandarin pronunciation and Sifu for the Cantonese pronunciation of the same written words. It is a title used for a skillful person or master. Some confusion in English exists because there is another title for one who is skilled that sounds identical but is written differently and refers to a skill obtained in a working-class profession such as cooking or taxi driving.
Inspirational Chinese calligraphy printed and sandwiched between two pieces of thick glass for an attractive desk ornament or paperweight. Lays flat or stands vertically. Double-sided calligraphy. Dimensions: 2.5” x 4” x 1” thick and weighs 13.5 ounces.
Construction note: Thick glass has a natural greenish tint on the edges as seen in the photos. The block has a thin 2-mm space between the sections where the double-sided calligraphy is inserted. The edges are beveled to prevent cuts when handling.
