Chinese Calligraphy Art in Shadow-Mat Frame: Nishikigoi (Koi)
Master Calligraphy Series
Chinese character for "Nishikigoi (Koi)" displayed in a smooth black frame with a unique "floating" double mat (a spacer creates a shadow between the mats). Frame size: 9" x 11" with 4.5" x 6.5" character insert.
Nishikigoi in Japanese translates to "Brocaded Carp" and is used to describe the colorful carp commonly called koi. In Chinese (pinyin: "Jin Li"), the characters translate the same and they are an auspicious symbol that relates to having abundance. A legend states that a carp can become a dragon by navigating through the "Dragon Gate", a large waterfall in the Yellow River near Henan. It symbolizes that a common person can become great by his extraordinary accomplishments.
The character is painted in running script style, then printed on acid-free 100% cotton archival paper. The uniquely matted frame focuses attention on the character and makes a simple, yet beautiful display on a desk, shelf, or table.
