Papercut: Dragon & Phoenix in solid oak frame
2-sided glass in handmade frame
Papercut: (Dragon and Phoenix) When together, these mythical animals represent harmony and togetherness (male/female and yang/yin). This Chinese folk art has a rich history spanning several hundred years. Originally made as New Year's decorations, styles vary depending on geographic regions. Our papercuts come from He Bei, a region known for its intricate and colorful designs.
Frame: The frame is cut from solid red oak lumber and is completely 2-sided. Two recessed screws on the bottom give access to the plexiglass and artwork if ever needed. The wood is stained with Chinese calligraphy ink, then hand rubbed with a blend of oils to seal and enhance the wood grain. The frame is a very dark with undertones of red. (computer monitor colors may not be accurate). Overall frame size is 9.5 x 9.5 with an opening of 7 x 7.
The papercut is sandwiched between 2 pieces of UV protected plexiglass which highlights its incredible detail and color. Both the frame and artwork can be viewed from either side which is why we include a clear acrylic table-top stand that allows the light to shine through. If you want to hang it on a wall, you will need to use your own hardware. The frame is not sold separately.
